Learning Reflection




My feelings in this subject.

At the beginning of the class, I felt this subject was very difficult and I thought I may do it not well. But when I started to learn, I know this subject is not the most difficult. I could do it very well because I had high points in midterm test. So I was happy very much when I learn this class. I think the instructor have the most important to motivate in learning. She is kind, good looking and understand the students. So I liked to learn this subject very much.

My attitude toward this subject.

I had good attitude with this subject because I think this subject have many benefits and I like to read books so this subject is very good for me.

What knowledge I gained from this course?

In this course, I have many knowledge for reading. I learned 11 untils and every weeks I had to write my blog. So I must attend to study for writing the blog.

After I learned all contents I can ;

1. I can discuss and analyze different genres of texts.

2. I understand the meaning of the text by identifying the topic, stating the the main idea, and located supporting details.

3. I can identify makers used in the text.

4. I can connect parts of the text using correct discourse marker.

5. I can identify patterns of the text organization.

6. I can write a cohesive text after reading.

The simplicity and difficulty I found in this course:

I liked unit 3 "description " very much because it is easy for me and I thought unit 10 "Problem and Solution" is the most difficult in this course.

How do I apply this subject with reading in the future?

I think this subject has many benefits in reading. I know technical to read the passages and understand it by using discourse maker.

If I don't know meaning of the word, I can guess it and understand the text.

 

 
 
 
 
 

Problem and Solution


On Monday, April 20, 201
 


First the instructor repeated definition and purposes of all units in this course. Then she answered the exercises 1 in the hand out.

 In the exercise, we read the passage then (A) wrote a sentence
explaining the main idea of the text, (B) wrote a title related to the main idea of the passage, and (C) created a diagram that represents the information in the text. I have done this exercise, but it haven't finished because I was not sure the answer.

The first passage is about " machine gun ".

The second is about "Amnesia ".
 
 
 

 
 
 
 
 
 
The third is the problem about the teen drivers accident.

The forth is how to prevent overheat and malfunction of the car.

And the last one is about many people are killed or injured while riding a bicycle.







Next, we read the exercise 2 and answered the question that follow. It's the passage that have four paragraphs is about benefits of the robot.
 
 
 
 

Finally, we watched all video of my classmates. I enjoyed the videos and have knowledge to do many foods from their videos.

The simplicity that I found in this class;

- I could read the passages understandably.

- I could think about the titles of these text.

- I could answer the questions in the exercise 2.

The hardness that I found in this class;

- Some passages I couldn't find solutions and problems.

- I couldn't remember all the list of problem-solution markers.

- Some vocabulary I don't know the meaning.

The way for solving the problem;

- I read the passages several times.

- I asked my friends.

- I found meaning of the word from dictionary.

In this class, I was happy very much because I liked to watch the videos of my classmates. This is the last week of this course. I think thelast until is the most difficult for me.

Exemplification 2

On Monday, March 30, 2015
In the morning, first the instructor  gave all answer in the text3 that is about the example of hazards in the home. 

Then we read the text “ What is language ? ” and do the exercise of the text.

In the exercise, we made circle all the expressions which have the same meaning as for example. Then we completed the sentence using: illustration, for example, a case in point, an example, for instance, and such as.





When we finished the exercise, we started the last unit            
 “ Problem and Solution ” . The instructor gave a sheet to me and describe about problem and solution. She told us a list of problem-solution marker that we will find in our academic reading.



After that, we read 4 text and circle the problem markers and highlight the solution markers. Then we write either problem or solution in the margin next to the relevant information.
When we finished the exercise, the instructor  let us to watch my video’s classmates. In this day has 4 video. I enjoyed  watching  their video and have  knowledge about how to cook the foods.
The easy that I found in this class ;
-        I could do the exercise about exemplification.
-        I understood about exemplification markers.
-        Vocabulary in the text unit exemplification is not too difficult.
The difficult that I found in this class ;
-        In the unit “ Problem and Solution ” the vocabulary is difficult and I don’t know  all meaning of the word.
-        I think “ Problem and Solution ” is the most difficult in this class.
-        I couldn’t remember all problem-solution marker.
-        If I don’t know meaning of the word, I wouldn’t understand content so I couldn’t divide difference between problem and solution.
The ways that I solved the problem ;
-        I found the meaning of the word in dictionary online.
-        I have to read unit “ Problem and Solution ” many times.
-        I have to read and remember the Problem and Solution makers.
In this class, I enjoyed about the video procedure and understood unit “Exemplification” because  I have read before study. But I think unit “ Problem and Solution ” is very difficult and have many the word that I’m unfamiliar.
I think the good way for learning reading  is study before the class. If I have the sheet before the class, I always study by self before. So when I was studying, I would  understand content better.

Exemplification

On Monday , March 23,  2015.
In the afternoon, first the instructor assigned to read the text 2 in Definition and Classification. It is about Species of Whales. 



The main idea of this text is there are many species of whales. And then we completed the diagram and the instructor checked the answers. Then we did the exercise that we had to decide the statement is true ( T ) or False ( F ) .

After that, we began the unit 9 Exemplification. The instructor described exemplification and showed abbreviations and transitions in exemplification text. 

Next, we read the text1 ( College Students' Pressure ) and completed the diagram and highlight the Exemplification Markers.

 Then, we read the text2 ( Fun things to do in Great Falls ) and matched the placed with the activities. After that, we read the text3  and answered the questions about the text but It haven't finished this hand out. The instructor assigned us to do all exercises in the hand out.

 Finally, we watched 4 videos of my classmates. 3 in 4 videos is how to make a sandwich. When I watched videos, I was very hungry.

In this class, the easy that I found ;
- I could read and understand text2 because it is very easy and I would like the final test is easy like this.
And the difficult that I found ;
- I could read the text1 and text3 but I  did not understand the texts because I don't know some word meaning so I solved this problem by find the words meaning in dictionary and changes idea with my partners.

In this class, I was very enjoy when I watched videos and atmosphere is well.

Definition and Classification

On Monday , March 23 , 2015.

In the morning , first the instructor showed some weblogs of my classmates. And then she gave hand out for us. It is "Definition and Classification" and she described and gave the example of Definition and Classification. Next, she showed some common Definition and Classification Markers and described strategies. Then , she assigned to do skill practice1; circle the Definition Markers, highlight the technical term, and underline the definitions.
When we finished the skill practice1, the instructor checked the answers.
Next, we did the skill practice 2 ; circle the Classification Markers. Then draw a diagram showing the classification. And then we did the skill practice 3 ; highlight the definitions of the words.


Next, we read the text1. It is about Anthropology. The main idea of this text is there are two types of Anthropology: physical anthropology and cultural anthropology.



After that , we completes the diagram and the instructor checked the answers. Finally, the instructor gave us the other hand out to study before the class. It is "Exemplification"
In this class, the easy that I found;
- I can't understand all the text, but I can guess the word and answered correctly.
- I could do the exercise because I have technical to read and answered from the instructor.
And the difficult that I found;
- I could not remember all Definition and Classification Markers, but I will study by myself after the class.
I was very happy in this class because I could do the exercise although all of these not correctly and the atmosphere is not stress.

Cause and Effect

On Monday , March 16, 2015.
In the afternoon , first the instructor described about cause and effect and gave the hand out cause and effect. She showed Cause and Effect Markets. After that she let us to do skill practice 1: Circle the Cause and Effect Markers. Highlight each cause and mark it with C. underline each effect and mark it with an E. the first one has been done as an example.


When we finished the practice, the
instructor gave students in the class answered exercises.
Next, she let us to do skill practice2 : circle the Cause  and Effect Markers and look for the specific causes and effect.Then complete the cause and effect diagrams. Write the correct letter in each box.
The first text is about there was a large decrease in traffic deaths on U.S. highways in the 1970s.

The second text is about The Titanic, the largest and best-equipped transatlantic liner of its time, hit an iceberg and sank. Of the more than two thousand passengers and crew , only 713 survived.
And then, we read The effects of Stress and answered the questions about the text.



In this class, the easy that I found ;
- I could fine the Cause and Effect Markers.
- I could look for cause and effect in the short sentence.
And the difficult that I found ;
- Some texts have long sentences and complex sentences and have the words that I don't know meaning, so it is problem for looking for the cause and effect. And I cloud solve this problem by finding the words in dictionary online and asked the instructor.
The atmosphere in the class would not rather alert because maybe some students were tried. And this unit I cloud not study by myself before the class because the instructor has just given the hand out.
Finally, we watched video that my friend presented how to make chocolate tube. It is good video and interesting.










Comparison and contrast 2

On Monday , March 16 , 2015.
In the morning , first the instructor told us the score of Midterm test. 















I was glad because I had the best score in my class. When everybody knew the score we go on the context in comparison and contrast. 


Last week the instructor assigned us to read and did the exercise in hand out for preparing to study. And I think it 's easy way to understand content when I study in the class.


Men and Women: Do They Speak the Same Language?

According to American sociologist , Deborah Tannen , there seem to be important difference between the language of men and women. Ms. Tannen believes that men and women have problems in conversing with each other because they are raised to  see the world in different ways.

After we read the different between men and women, the instructor answered all exercise in hand out.
The exercise test my reading comprehension and it have various form such as choose the correct answer , mark T or F in sentences , write my idea in the space , and  match the relationship in column.
Then the instructor assigned us write the answer of b in page 8



Question b. Are any of Tannen's points about the different personalities of men and women true in your native culture ? Explain. Do men and women in your native culture use the language the way Tannen claims American men and women do? Give specific examples.
Answer   In my native culture , Tannen's points about the different personalities of men and women is true. Thai men always make jokes stories and they think, they had powerful more than women. They have not sensitive feeling as women. Men always talk about sports and often change the  topic. On the other hand , women always talk with their friends about private matter more than men , women like gossip and they always use emotion to decide the problems. Men and women on my native culture use the language different- i.e., the husband can remember the important day of them but he can't show special activity because he thing everyday is very important for him, but the wife doesn't understand. She want to see the special activity in every important day. She think she is not special for him and she always use emotion in situation.

 In this class , the easy that I found is;
- I understood the content and most of exercise I could
do it because I read it many time before the class.
And the difficult that I found is;
- Some exercise I was not confident to do it and I can write main idea of paragraph in my own word but I think it all not correct. I had a big problem about writing because I was worried correct grammar. And I could solve this problem by practice more than and look the examples from my friends and the instructor.

I was very happy in this class because I got the best score in Midterm test and I could do the exercises. I liked the way that the instructor gave the hand out before the class because of I can read and do exercise before the class. It made me easy to understand the content.
