Narratives

First, the instructor introduce to the lesson by gave us to write my feeling as a child. Then the instructor let me put a cross on line in the circle, at an appropriate point, to show how my felt as a child and join the crosses with a pencil line. After that compare the picture with my partner and talk about similarities or differences in my childhood memories.




Next, the instructor described about narratives that have
Text organization and Language features and gave the example of narrative.

Last week the instructor assign us to read the story “ Secret ” but everybody in my class didn’t read it.

 After that the instructor and us read the Secret by Tim Winton in part one. It’s about a young girl called Kylie who feels inadequate and lonely by her mother’s lack of care and love and missing father figure in her life. Kylie is having trouble dealing her parent break up, she doesn’t know why her dad has left.
Later, the instructor let us to work in groups of 5 people and assign us to analyze the story and complete the summary of the first part and add three fairy short sentences. After each group  present the their summary.



Next, the instructor assigned us to read the second part of the story and do homework in page 57.
The problem that I found in this class,
- Some verb phrase  and vocabulary that I don’t know
- Using incorrect grammar
- Analyzing Text organization
 

The way solving the problems,
- I can find the meaning of the word by using dictionary.
- I can check correct grammar in the internet.
- I have to read the story many times.
Learning in this time I felt happy because the instructor was very kind and gave good suggestion for work.

Recount 2

The instructor assigned us to do exercise 3 and exercise 4.
After that the instructor gave us to work in groups in 5 people for helping  write a recount.


 The recount that we write must have elements that is text organization and language features.

My group wrote the recount in story An extreme holiday at Central Salaya that was story about went shopping 
and did activities in holiday with some friends. When we had finished the instructor gave us to present about our recount. Later, the instructor gave the sheet narrative and assigned us to read the Secret.


The problem that I found in this learning was practiced write a recount because using correct grammar and various vocabulary.
Learning in this time was helping us to solve the problems of groups working. We had the unity and accepted the opinion of the others.
Moreover, the atmosphere of the class is a smooth. And I had fun to learn even more.

 

Recount 1

The instructor began the lesson by opening the video hockey competition provided us to watch in 2 matches. Then the instructor gave us to write the words about hockey sport.





After  that the instructor explained  about recount.
The purpose of recount is telling what happened and it consists of 
1. Personal recount 
2. Factual recount 
3. Imaginative recount


Next, the instructor gave us an example recount that is Furious Pace in Hockey Finals. The instructor explained the text organization and language features where is the part of the recount. After that the instructor assigned us to work in groups in 5 people. We did exercise 1 that gave us to analyses the text and exercise 2  that gave us to read the text and answer questions about the text.

Learning in this time made me practice group working. Helping to analyze and solve the problems.
The simplicity of this learning is to find text organization and language features.For the problem I found that was knowing the mean of words. Some of the terminology I don't know and make me feel not smooth when read the text. I solved a problem by using smart phones for find the meaning of words.
I had fun and enjoyed the class because the atmosphere in the classroom, not too much pressure.

Course introduction


I had a discourse approach in reading class.

This is my first class of this semester. Instructor of this course is  Asst.Prof.Usa  Noytim.

Before we started the learning , the instructor asked us to organise  the classroom in two semi-circles. After that  instructor introduce the course ( e.g.  course  description , aim , objectives , content , teaching and learning  activity , evaluation  and assessment , learning  materials as well as 5 domains of learning )  

We learn about discourse  markers and do the worksheets.  And the last, instructor reflect learning experience on weblogs, give a list of discourse markers for learning myself  and assign us writing weblogs every time that we learn this course.



The first time , I feel  worry about  this course  but   when I started learning for a while. I feel better and enjoy the course.
